Interesuje me poreklo prezimena janjanin.Takodje da li ima još neko od janjanina. Moj prijatelj se zove Dušan Janjanin a otac Aleksandar, poreklom iz Hrvatske.

I am also researching the Janjanin family. Most of my Janjanin family is Serbian and lives in Canada, although there are still several family members still in Belgrade. I also found records of a large number of Janjanin’s in Croatia died in a concentration camp although I am still gathering information.

      Hello,
My grandmother is from Janjanin Family. Janjanin family moved at some point to villages of town of Gradiska in Bosnia. The assumption is that they came from Janj (also in Bosnia) area prior to that- probably escaping Ottomans. Many were killed by Croatian Ustasha in the villages and in the concentration camp. My grandmother parents included. Some of our family members moved to Serbia and there are some that they are only guessing what might have happened.
My grandmother told me a story of one of her uncle’s having to escape during the Ottoman occupation because he killed a “beg” . They never have been able to locate where he ended up but at one point they believe that he was heard of in Austria under a variation of the last name . I believe his first name was Ostoja.
Janjanin family celebrates the saint of St. Nicolas .

According to the stories of the elderly: “Janjanin families came to this area in several groups- there are 4 different familie groups which are not related. Most likely they came from the place called Janj but it is very likely that their original last names were Borkovic and Obradovic. “ this is from the book “Cimiroti zapis o selu” by Vasilije Sinik
