Prezime Mrđenović pripada staroj gatačkoj porodici, nekad nastanjenoj u Mrđenovićima, selu koje je po njima dobilo ime. Ovaj podatak može da se nađe u knjizi “Hercegovačka prezimena” Rista Milićevića, gde još stoji da je rodonačelnik porodice bio Mrđen, istaknuti gatački vlastelin.
Mrđen je, verovatno, otac ključkog vojvode Pripca Mrđenovića po kome se Mrđenovići pominju i kao Pripčići.
Ova porodica dala je nekoliko značajnih ličnosti 14. i 15. veka. U tom periodu prezime se pominje i u Dubrovačkim arhivama u latiničnoj verziji Merguenovich.
Prezime se pominje i u Bihorima (dva brata Mrđenovića), a u nekropoli stećaka ovog gatačkog sela sahranjivani su vlastelini Mrđenovići iz Mrđenovića.

Robert Mrdjenovich
My Haplogroup is R-M512. My maternal grandparents were born in Vojnic’, Croatia. Their names were Jovan Vukasinovic’ (born in 1875) and Sava (Matjevic’) Vukasinovich (b in 1877). They came to the United States through the immigration port in Baltimore, MD, in the first decade of the 20th century and settled in Western Pennsylvania. They left four deceased children in their homeland, and had two daughters in the USA.
I get conflicting stories on where my paternal grandparents were born. I was told my paternal grandfather Stevan Mrdjenovic’, (born in 1882), was born in Zivkovic’ Cosa, Croatia, and my paternal grandmother Stanka (Petrovic’) Mrdjenovich, (born in 1891) in Karlovac’, Croatia. But their immigration papers say that they were “from (last place of residence) (Stevan) Dvor” which was on the border of Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, and (Stanka) Glina (Hungary). At any rate, they were Serbs that practiced Eastern Orthodox Christianity. My paternal grandfather was orphaned at 2 years old. He was raised by a stepmother who was kind and loving. He had no siblings. My paternal grandmothers name was Gregory Petrovich.
My paternal grandfather came to the United States in 1906 through Ellis Island, NY. He was married and had one son; he located in Western West Virginia. He subsequently was widowed. He married my grandmother, who came to the United States through Ellis Island in 1909. My grandmother’s aunt recommended to each of them that they marry, and they did without knowing each other. The subsequently had 18 children, 12 of which survived childbirth. They later moved to Western Pennsylvania.

MRĐENOVIĆ (p), stara gatačka porodica nekada nastanjena u Mrđenovićima – selu koje je po njima dobilo ime. Rodonačelnik porodice bio je Mrđen, istaknuti gatački vlastelin. Mrđen je, vjerovatno, otac ključkog vojvode Pripca Mrđenovića po kome se Mrđenovići pominju i kao Pripčići. Ova porodica dala je nekollko značajnih ličnosti 14. i 15. vijeka. Prezime se pominje i u Bihorima (dva brata Mrđenovića), a u nekropoli stećaka ovog gatačkog sela sahranjivani su vlastelini Mrđenovići iz Mrđenovića (146:288- 291).
