I would love to find out more information about my families origins. My great grandfather Jova Tica came to the USA in 1912, and his fathers name was Teso Tica born in 1856. That is as far back as I know. If anyone can help me find more information I would be very grateful!

Hello mr Jovan. I was looking in Ellis Island records, and I see that your grandfather Jovo Tica arrived to America 1912. year by ship which name was Oceania. He was born in village Smrtic, Hungary. Probably his brother , which name was Kosta arrived year later 1913. and he arrived by ship which name was Noordam, he was born also in Smrtic.

Here you can find more information.

Smrtić (in translation Serbian-English it means a little death) was the place where were your ancestors and it is today in Croatia. The place is in part in Croatia call West Slavonia , and Smrtić is village near city Nova Gradiška. In this days in Smrtić live mostly Serbs.
You can try and look orthodox church books from Nova Gradiška , probably in those church books were your ancestors and rest of people of the village Smrtić.

You are welcome ! If you still remember serbian letter (cyrilic) it would be much easier for reading church books, because for our nation church books is always on cyrilic, no metter in which period or geographic area they had been wroten.
Do you know what is family patron or Krsna Slava of your family Tica?
